THE
THINGS WE
THROW AWAY

Cataloguing The Passing Of Time

The things we throw away, tell’s the story of our society and the environment we live, revealing the fragility of life; acting as a memorial to loss, commemorating the passing of time.

By cataloguing and re-imagining these broken, obsolete and unwanted objects, like relics from our past, the viewer is challenged to reconstruct stories that spark memories which ask questions about our own mortality.

Employing photography and schematic assemblages to document these themes in a range of styles, both symbolic and direct, utilizing an archaeological tone echoing the conventions of a museum exhibition to display these found artefacts, heightening their authenticity, and elevating their status, like sacred objects from an ancient burial chamber or tomb. Fragments of time, measured, catalogued and immortalised.

Exploring the relationship between our collective memory, mortality, and the passing of time seen through the lens of the things we throw away. It’s the ‘obsolescence’ of these discarded and unwanted items which is at the heart of this project.
