Motivated by this years theme of arts’ capacity to forge ‘dialogues,’ this peaceful and picturesque scene vividly portrays the unique charm of Gloucestershire’s idyllic countryside, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on its inherent tranquillity and beauty. The work draws inspiration from the traditional Japanese art of printmaking from the Edo period, known as Ukiyo-e, which literally translates to “Pictures of the Floating World,” and hopes to encourage the viewer to contemplate their own connection to nature and reflect on the intricate balance of life that exists within it. It possesses the capacity to forge meaningful dialogues and to afford us greater sensitivity toward pressing societal concerns, such as ecology, survival, and the profound importance of living together in harmony with one another and our environment.
